Trampolining is a fun, exhilarating, aerobically effective sport in which participants
perform a number of different moves on the trampoline bed.
It
can have therapeutic effects and is a great form of stress-relief. It is a beautiful and elegant sport requiring discipline and precise body control that can only be achieved
by continuous repetition of skills. Trampolining
is often used by athletes to train in another sport, especially diving, snowboarding, surfing and other sports requiring agility.
Greenwich Bouncers can help you have fun whilst getting fit!
The
basic principles underlying all trampoline skills are: jumping, twisting, somersaulting and landing on various body parts
(feet, seat, front and back) whilst making body shapes. Some shapes start like
a simple star shape and progress to very complex moves, involving twists, turns and somersaults in the air. The aim is to promote confidence, competence and understanding of the basic moves to participants
and then progress them onto more challenging ones such as linking moves together. This is called performing a ‘Routine’. Performers can do solo routines or in pairs (synchronised trampolining).

Trampolining
improves posture, flexibility and co-ordination and is a form of plyometrics – the latest form of strength training
used by athletes. It encourages teamwork and a sense of responsibility. It is suitable for even the very young - Children as young as 3 or 4 years old can
participate and perform the simplest of moves. Children of all ages love bouncing
on beds and bouncy castles – this activity positively encourages this! Greenwich Bouncers provide a safe and fun environment for this to happen. Trampolining
has no upper age limit either, and can be enjoyed by adults of all ages.

Trampolining is an Olympic Sport!
Since
Trampolining became an Olympic Sport for the first time at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia its profile has been raised.
Although perceived mostly as a recreational activity, the popularity of the sport is rapidly increasing and more and more
trampoline clubs are being set up, mostly in leisure centres, youth clubs and in schools, especially as it is now also offered
as part of the National Curriculum in the form of PE GCSE. Those wishing to make
a serious commitment to the sport can progress to competitive level. Competitive
trampolining is a judged sport, like gymnastics, where the participant performs two prepared routines consisting of ten bounces
(or contacts with the bed), intensifying in speed and rotation as the competitor progresses through the Grades.
Structured coaching provided by Greenwich
Bouncers
means that participants can learn properly and safely and are taught at their own pace and ability. When undertaking this activity it is important that safety issues are kept in the forefront and that coaching
is only ever undertaken by a properly qualified Coach, and who is a current member of the British Gymnastics Association
Greenwich Bouncers participates in the British Gymnastics Award scheme, which tracks progress
against National Curriculum standards, and trampolinists can be assessed as part of their coaching session. This is a way of showing the performer their progress. Certificates
can be purchased, if required, from the Coach that does the assessment.
Trampoline Attire
To get the best out
of your recreational session, loose comfortable clothing should be worn, such as t-shirts, track suit bottoms and shorts. Hats and hoodies are not allowed to
be worn on the trampoline, but hoodies can be tucked into the back of the neck if necessary.
It is not advisable to wear anything that has many buttons, zips, loose strings or hooks as these can get caught in
the trampoline ‘bed’. No jewellery of any kind should be worn. Socks or trampoline shoes must always be worn on the trampoline.
For competitive trampolining,
girls must wear a long-sleeved leotard in and can sometimes wear gymnastic shorts and boys must wear gymnastic trousers. Feet must be covered by white trampoline shoes.
Health & Safety
Trampolining
is a Sport, and, as such, can have dangerous consequences if adequate care is not taken.
Greenwich Bouncers only provide fully qualified British
Gymnastics coaches
to ensure that you learn in a safe and healthy environment
One
of the most important safety requirements is to provide an adequate number of ‘spotters’ for each session. A spotter is a person who stands around the trampoline and ensures that the bouncer
cannot bounce off the trampoline and onto the floor.
In
the interests of safety, the recommended minimum number of participants is 3/4 per trampoline (if end decks are used) and
the recommended maximum is 10 per trampoline.
A
qualified Coach must be present for the duration of the session
Accidents can be
avoided if the participants:
* Do not run
around the trampoline
* Do not jump
off the trampoline
* Do not go
under or swing on the trampoline whilst it is up – this includes the end decks
* Do not eat,
drink or chew gum whilst on or around the trampoline
Parents
of very young children are encouraged to ‘spot’ along with their children.
